A Review Of The CECT P168 Plus Quadband - The New Quad Band Version Of the iClone

Sunday, May 25th, 2008

Well, the wait is finally over. The Quad Band version of the iClone has finally arrived. Like the previous iClone model, this phone can do virtually anything you need it to. It looks and functions amazingly similar to the iPhone, while allowing you to use any provider you chose. You aren’t forced to go with AT&T with this phone. With it’s touch screen, you can surf the web, download and listen to music, record and play video, etc. This phone also has a removable battery (unlike the iPhone) and has TWO sim slots allowing you to basically have a phone for business and leisure.

Here is how the new version quadband CECT P 168 Plus compares to the old version:

The major upgrade is obviously that it is quadband, which makes it literally plug and play. It works with any network worldwide. (GSM GPRS 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 MHz). They have also: upgraded the Bluetooth features; upgraded the firmware; added a slide unlock (which means anyone can unlock this phone in one swipe); added a webcam; and upgraded the phone with surround sound. (Complete list of specs below).

The touch screen on the quadband version feels a bit firmer (and more like glass) than the original. The cost of this model if very competitive, coming in between $100 and $150.

The videos floating around for this phone (link at the end of the article) can really demonstrate what this phone can do. Here are a list of the features:

Has Your Computer Hard Drive Ever Crashed? Are You Challenged by Backups?

Friday, May 23rd, 2008

The following scenario’s have probably been repeated thousands of times, on computer systems of all kinds and sizes, operated by all levels of users from complete novice, to expert user.

· You log on and your computer will not boot to your operating system.

· You have installed some piece of new hardware, or some new software, your computer cannot find your operating system.

In more than 20 years of using personal computers, I have experienced all kinds of computer/operator failures. Some were caused by equipment failure, others by me doing something dumb. It really makes no difference, when your computer does not work, the only thing that matters is getting it up and running, and saving as much data as possible

All mechanical devices, will at some point fail, there is no timetable that tells you exactly when they will fail, however it is usually when you can least afford the time lost or the cost of repair, or of course immediately after the warranty has expired. Current computer hard drives are very reliable, they work for hours on end and keep right on ticking, they are however partially mechanical, as such they are subject to unannounced failure. They could fail in 5 minutes, or in 5 years or even longer.

As computer users we have all been admonished time and time again to backup our work on a regular basis, as insurance against losing data. Data can be lost in other ways of course, but if you do have a current backup you will only lose whatever you created or changed just before the failure.

My first experience with a hard drive failure was the classic computer will not boot. My first course of action was to call tech support from the manufacturer. The customer service rep stayed on the phone with me for about 4 hours, as we tried to diagnose where the problem was, after trying every thing she knew to try, she said they would send a technician to replace my hard drive. Of course none of my data was easily retrievable, and I did not have a current backup. Immediately after this episode I began to backup my data frequently. However at this particular time, backup software was not real easy to use, and choosing the media to backup to required the installation of more hardware. I quickly fell out of the habit of frequent backups.

I have experienced log on failures after adding or changing hardware or software many times. Usually followed by a call to customer support, which you most likely will have to pay for. Your support call may be transferred to a foreign country, your support person may or may not be highly qualified, there have been many instances where I felt that I knew more than the support person. There have been many instances that I managed to fix the problem myself, while waiting for support to get back to me. Sometimes I lost information, sometimes it was there but hard to find etc. The times that were most successful were when I did have a current backup.

Backup software has evolved, there are very easy programs to use, they are very easy to automate, the media options are many and easy to set up.

In my current setup I use Norton Ghost 9.0 as my software of choice, and I send my backups to a removable USB 2.0 hard drive. The advantages of this system are an extremely easy to set software program that can do anything form complete backups on whatever schedule you choose to complete copies of hard drives. The speed and safety of using a removable hard drive would be hard to beat. Because of the “set it and forget it” nature of this system, I now have complete backups always at hand.

Peace of mind is a wonderful thing

Mobile Phone Accessories

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

Unlike most advances in technology, the cellular phone has become a fashion statement for a whole generation of the young; manufacturers release updated versions frequently to satisfy the low boredom threshold most young people have, or risk losing their custom. Industry and professionals everywhere use the modern cell phone for much more practical purposes. For example, journalists are able to send images within minutes to the desks of their editors. This has created a situation with manufacturers constantly updating and redesigning phones so they are out of date as soon as they are on sale. Another industry based around extras has also grown rapidly with Audiovox cellular phone accessories just one company that has seen the future of mobile communications industry.

With improvements in battery life, size, design and capabilities it is amazing what can be packed into an Audiovox cell phone not to mention they accessory range. The power cord accessory for example helps to condition the cell phone battery as well as charge it.

Audiovox also manufacture a belt clip that can be used with any cell phone. With the safety of the user and others in mind, cellular phone head sets can be used so that the cell phone can be used hands free. The main reason for this device is to reduce the number of accidents caused by drivers whose attention is occupied holding the cell phone instead of concentrating on the road.

With the most up to date Audiovox models using a complete wire-free technology enabling safe and static free communication. With this new technology you should always be able to hear the other person clearly and safely.

The phone accessory called Jabra is the model you should look out for if you want this type of function. Discreet would be a better word to describe Jabra because it small and very light so you will hardly know it is there.

Often the line when you speak to someone isn’t that clear when you are on the move but by using the new multi-function antenna this little problem is also solved. When purchasing your Audiovox cellular phone, you would be wise to buy a model with an earphone included. Talking on your cell phone whilst driving can sometimes be dangerous so this type of phone accessory could be a life saver as well as help you carry out your job more effectively. Choose your Audiovox cellular phone accessories to suit your lifestyle and you won’t go far wrong.

Easy Steps to Formatting Your Portable Hard Drive For Use With Windows XP

Monday, May 19th, 2008

What Does It Mean To Format My Portable Hard Drive?

When you initially purchase your portable hard drive or if you want to restore it to its original state, you must format it. Formatting prepares it for the first use, erasing any existing data in the process.

Backing Up Your Portable Hard Drive

The first step in formatting your portable hard drive is to back up any data that you have on your drive. If you are formatting a new drive you can skip this step, but if you are re-formatting an existing drive, make sure to copy all of your files to another drive before continuing.

Step-By-Step Instructions

After you have backed up your existing files, follow the instructions below to format your portable hard drive. There are many ways to format your drive, but as long as you are only going to be using Windows XP, below are the quickest and easiest steps:

1) Double-Click on the My Computer icon

2) Using the right mouse button, click on your portable hard drive

3) You will now see the “Format Menu”

There are a variety of options to choose from on the Format Menu, and to a novice they can look very confusing and cryptic, but the truth is, the only option you might want to change is the “Volume Label.” This can be helpful for identification, because when you plug your portable hard drive into another computer, it doesn’t always retain the same drive letter.

Choose something you’ll easily recognize, like “Portable Hard Drive.” Then, just click Start! At this point, Windows informs you in BIG BOLD LETTERS that all the data on your disk will be erased if you continue. But you’re not worried about that, because you already backed up all your data as described earlier.

Simply ignore all the warnings and exclamation points and click OK.

The blue status bar at the bottom of the Format Menu starts ticking away, indicating that your drive is currently being formatted.

A cool wave of relief washes over you as you wipe the sweat from your brow, realizing that your job is done. You’ve done some hard work, but you’ve done it right. Now the only thing left to do is wait.

Waiting For Your Portable Hard Drive to Finish Formatting

Do not unplug your portable hard drive or try copying anything to it while it is formatting. This can sometimes require a lot of patience. You’ve come all this way and done your part, and you’re ready to go. Now you have to let your computer do its part, and depending on the size of your hard drive and the speed of your computer, it can take a while.

Nothing is worse than just sitting there watching it. Go buy yourself a slice of pizza. When you come back you want to see a dialog box letting you know your format is complete. Just click OK, and your portable hard drive is ready to go!

Practicing Golf with a Purpose

Sunday, May 18th, 2008

If you are like a lot of golfers out there, you spend an inordinate amount of time working on your game. Golf publications, sessions with teaching pros, the latest practice gear, and the latest equipment fill up your garage. Also, you practice a lot. You are not afraid of the driving range and putting green, even working to the point of having blisters on your hands. The problem is, though, no matter how much you practice, you just are not seeing the results you expect.

Don’t fret, this is true for a large number of golfers, and in the end it comes down to one thing, you must practice your golf game with a purpose. You are probably asking yourself, what does that mean? Or you may say, I do practice with a purpose - to get better at golf. As you read this, ask yourself if you are really employing the techniques proposed. My guess is you aren’t.

Driving Range Golf Tips

As good as it may sound to your golf buddies, hitting bag after bag of driving range balls will not make you a better golfer. In fact, it may make you worse, because often you are reinforcing your bad swing, making it even more difficult to create the golf swing you really want.

The way to get the most out of your driving range time is to use this golf tips: hit every ball on the range just like you were out on the golf course. This means not only visualizing hitting it to a fairway, green, or hitting a specific target, but employing your pre shot routing before hitting every single ball. If you don’t have a preshot routine, start one. It not only gets your mind ready to hit the next shot, but after time it will set in motion a series of events that can be ingrained into your muscle memory, increasing the likelihood of hitting the shot you want and thereby increasing substantially your consistency (and lowering your golf scores). Watch Tiger, he does it the same every time.

In addition to utilizing a preshot routine on every shot, aim for a specific target. You can’t know how well you’re hitting it if you’re not aiming for something. You could be aiming way off and not know it. It is so much easier to identify and track your progress when aiming for a specific target.

Finally, unless you have a lot of time, hit no more than 50 balls on the range in any one practice session (usually equal to a small bag of driving range balls). That many balls should take approximately an hour, if you’re doing it right, and after that, the chances of your mind wandering and your old habits returning goes up exponentially. Hitting range balls is tiring, and you don’t want to practice tired (at least until you’ve ingrained your swing). Quit while you’re ahead if you want to make big gains and lower your scores.

Putting Green Golf Tips

On the putting green, it is vital that you use the same tips as described above for the driving range. A pre-putt routine, aiming at a target, and limiting your time (I would put in another hour max) can contribute to large golf game improvement.

In addition to that, read Putting Out of Your Mind by Bob Rotella. It will change the way you think about putting, offers some great practice tips, and will improve your game tremendously.

Finally, putt from the inside out. Get good enough with your stroke that you are confident that you can make everything inside three feet. Once that is accomplished, move out to five feet. Then become comfortable and confident rolling in ten footers. Its the mid-distance par saving putts that will greatly impact your scoring.

Follow these golf tips, and you’ll be sure to improve your golf game.

Mental Toughness - Starting Strong

Thursday, May 15th, 2008

The keys to getting a good start happen prior to taking the court. You need to be well rested, eat healthy meals, and have activity the day before to make for a good nights rest. Feel good about yourself by wearing clothes you feel confident and comfortable in. The process on picking out clothes should be done the night before.

Make sure to wake up with plenty of time to get dressed, eat a smart meal that is light but will last through that match. The meal must be enjoyed. Make sure that you have enough time to get to a match 20-30 minutes before it starts. Your drive must be relaxing with the focus and excitement based on the fun you will have on the court. All of these elements will improve your match results prior to your arrival.

Once you arrive the key is to warm yourself up. There is a chance a court may not be available so make sure to carry a few items to help. Carry a jump rope to warm up your entire body before the match, be careful to not overdue your pre-match warm-up.

Second have a sock racket in which you can use to warm up your shoulder and arm for serving. Last have surgical tubing to stretch your rotator cuff and arms. If you forget these items take a slow jog with side shuffle and grapevines, swing your racket in a relaxed serving motion, and pick a line to jump forward and back and side to side over.

Once you reach the court introduce yourself to your opponent(s) spin the racquet for serve, return, and sides. This will get the match started as soon as the warm-up concludes. Start the warm-up with short court first to get control of your shots. Use topspin and underspin on your shots up from the service line for 2 minutes. This will prevent the on court warm-up from being a ball chasing fest.

Once you are controlling your shots have one player back up to the baseline with the other starting at the net. The player on the baseline should hit controlled ground strokes as the net player is hitting controlled volley’s back. After 2 minutes ask for some overheads and this will give the baseliner a chance to warm-up the lob. Take as many overheads as you need as this is good for your serve warm-up also. Once finished switch baseline and net positions and repeat. You should have 2 minutes left for serves.

Players should serve at slow speeds to warm-up and if you are making the practice serves continue to increase your speed until you start to miss and then slow it down. Practice placement over power with these serves. Each player should hit, catch the serve, and hit back this is not time to practice returns unless you are first to return and you feel confident in your serve placement. You and your opponent are now ready to start the match. If you followed all of the above you are well rested, your body is well nourished, and you are properly warmed-up to start.

Preparing Your Computer for Overclocking

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

There is certain steps that a person needs to take before they overclock their PC. As with any process that involves the main components of your computer (such as upgrading), there is risks. Preparing ahead of time will not only make the process easier but will help ease the pain if something happens, such as your computer crashing.

The first step that a person should do before overclocking their computer is to make a backup of all files stored. Most computer systems have a built-in program that allows you to make backup copies of your files and even your operating system. If you don’t have a program to make the process of backing up your files easier, you can simply create a disk with copies of your important files. Be sure to include your documents, photos, and anything else that you would hate to lose.

It is also a good idea to start with a fresh system, so if your computer has the option to return to factory settings, do so. Having a fresh system will allow a person to see the changes better and will allow the person to be able to view any issues that may arise better.

After making a backup of your files, you will want to do some research and find out exactly how much overclocking your computer can handle.

There is many websites on the internet that provides a list of the results of other people’s overclock. You can do a search for your particular CPU and find out exactly how much others have successfully overclocked without causing damage. You can also read about instances where they overclocked too much.

It is good to find out what the safe overclocking limit is for your particular CPU in order to prevent damage.

Another action that a person needs to take before overclocking is to find out exactly what it will take to reach the intended level of overclocking. There is several websites on the internet that can provide you with the exact method on how to find this out. The most basic method is to multiply the multiplier by the bus speed and the result is the CPU speed. Then you would just compare your results to the ones you obtained about the safe amount of overclocking.

It might take a little adjustments but a person will soon find out the exact solution to reach their goals.

Being prepared before starting any task can greatly affect the outcome. By researching and studying the task at hand, a person will have a better understanding on how to reach their goal.

Since there is much risks associated with overclocking a computer, it is extremely necessary that a person is fully prepared and can dedicate their full attention to the process. Even though the actual process of overclocking a computer is simple, the issue is monitoring the status of the computer and watching for overheating.

With even the best programs available for temperature monitoring available, a person must devote their full attention to watching for warning signs of possible problems. That said, being prepared is just one way to keep on track and be able to devote that attention to where it is needed.

In review, there is a few steps that every person should take before overclocking their computer. Not only will these steps be helpful in saving time during the process, but will allow the person the opportunity to devote their attention to the more critical tasks such as monitoring.

Billy Zype is an overclocking expert. You can check out his website at http://www.hotoverclocking.com

Download World Of Warcraft Full Version Computer Game, Free

Tuesday, May 13th, 2008

World Of Warcraft is one of the best single and multi player computer games every designed. There are multiple ways in which this game can be downloaded for free on the internet. I have done some research and the tips should save you a lot of research.

Best Ways To Download World Of Warcraft Full Version Free:

1. Game Pass From Real Arcade. The free trial version can simply be registered again and it allows free and unlimited downloads of full games. Games including World of Warcraft and Gears of War. It really is the best service online at the moment for gaming fans.

2. Kazaa. Offers free full version download of the game and it downloads rather quick, often only taking a couple of hours. The only bad thing is this software is not allowed in all countries and often the files can contain viruses and other forms of spyware.

3. Games Warehouse. They charge a little bit for new games. But often with games around two years old from the original release date, they will allow it to be downloaded for free. This is my favourite service, as it also has updates for the world of warcraft with patches.

4. Morpheus. The quality of this service has dropped off a lot lately. Although it still does offer the game free. The download time is slow as well. But it is a valuable alternative all gaming fans will like.

Often the quality of these downloads are near perfect and the only thing you have to check up on is updates and patches to improve the quality of world of warcraft especially when playing online.

What Happened To My Hard Drive Space?

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Today I wanted to share with you a question sent in from a reader who asks; “I just bought a 160GB hard drive to replace my old 80GB drive. Installation went fine however, XP only recognizes 149.01GB what’s the deal??

Well this question gets asked quite often and it brings with it a lot of arguments and confusion.

So what’s the deal?

Well your hard drive is advertised as having a 160GB capacity, but your computer shows only 149.01.

This discrepancy is the result of having two methods of measuring capacity. Computers are binary, or “base two,” mathematical systems, and in a binary world a kilobyte is 1024 bytes (2 to the 10th power). When computers were new, the designers referred to this as a “kilo.” The public, however, understood kilo to mean thousand, (decimal) and thought that 1000 bytes should equal a kilobyte.

So, two different measurements of hard drive space were born. In 1998, (IEC) weighed in, defining 1 “gigabyte” as 1 billion bytes. Hard disk manufacturers agree, marketing their products using the rounder decimal value instead of the binary system. So, your drive is labeled as decimal “giga” and your PC reads binary IEC’s term, “gibi”. (We wont get into those foolish names today.)

So essentially you are not being ripped off. The number of bytes on the hard drive is the same weather you use decimal or binary. Lets use a scenario often used to help better understand this conversion. This is similar to the difference between 0 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees Fahrenheit. It is the same temperature, but will be reported differently depending on the scale you are using. I hope I have cleared up any confusion you may have had regarding the “missing” space on your hard drive.
